After performing eight string quartets in five rounds over seven days, we are extremely honored (and exhausted...) to announce that we are the 2nd Prize Winners of the 12th Banff International String Quartet Competition! In addition to our overall prize, we won the R.S. Williams & Sons Haydn Prize for the best performance of a Haydn quartet and the Canadian Commission Prize for the best performance of Zosha di Castri's String Quartet No. 1. Our prize also includes a fully funded future residency at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity.
The Tesla Quartet has been named the Marjorie Young Bell String Quartet-in-Residence in the Department of Music at Mount Allison University for the 2016-17 academic year. This residency, funded by the Marjorie Young Bell Endowment Fund, has been established in celebration of the 100th anniversary of Mount Allison's first Bachelor of Music degree and the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Marjorie Young Bell Conservatory of Music.
After nearly two weeks, three rounds, and nine quartets, we are delighted to announce that we have returned home from the 2015 International Joseph Haydn Chamber Music Competition in high spirits, having been awarded Third Prize as well as the Prize for the "Best interpretation of the commissioned work."
